A teen has been arrested for murder after he allegedly killed his girlfriend and her brother with a hammer after stabbing their mother several times in Ranchi, Jharkhand, India.
The 19-year-old accused, Arpit Arnav, who was reportedly involved in stock market trading, allegedly killed his 17-year-old girlfriend and her minor 14-year-old brother with a hammer in the early hours of June 18 at their house in Ojha Market, Ranchi, Jharkhand, India.
In addition to the murders, Arpit also allegedly stabbed the girl's mother three to four times with a knife. However, after the knife broke, he picked up a hammer and hit her with it as well. The accused's girlfriend and her brother suffered grievous injuries and died at the scene. However, the victims' mother survived the attack and is undergoing treatment at a hospital, NDTV reported.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the accused Arpit was in a relationship with the girl. However, the girl's family was against their relationship and expressed their disapproval several times.
On June 18, at around 3:30 a.m., Arpit reportedly went to the girl's house to see his beau. However, after hearing some strange noises, the victim's mother woke up and went to check on her daughter. The mother reportedly found her daughter and Arpit in a compromising position and started beating the suspect, Times Now reported.
However, when the girl's mother started thrashing Arpit, the accused felt enraged and in a fit of anger, picked up a knife and stabbed the mother three to four times. After the knife broke during the attack, however, Arpit took a hammer that was on top of the family's refrigerator and began using it to hit the matriarch in the head.
Hearing her sister and mother's screams, the girl's minor brother rushed to the scene and tried to fight Arpit away. However, Arpit allegedly also hit him with the hammer. Seeing this, the girl tried to intervene. However, Arpit attacked her as well. The siblings suffered grievous head injuries and died on the spot. After the gruesome attack, Arpit fled the scene and went to Bilaspur in Chattisgarh.
He then went to Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, Bhagalpur, and Patna in Bihar, and finally returned to Ranchi where he was arrested by investigating officers on Sunday, June 26. The suspect has been charged with murder.
