A 16-year-old boy has been accused of murdering his 13-year-old younger brother, seemingly frustrated by the victim persistently asking their mother to buy him a new mobile phone in Naya Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India on Wednesday, Aug. 3.

The victim, a 13-year-old boy who reportedly suffered from substance abuse at a very young, allegedly frequently terrorized people in their village, as well as frequently badgered his mother, demanding a new mobile phone and pocket money.

His 16-year-old elder brother, miffed by his younger sibling's irresponsible behavior, allegedly attacked and bludgeoned the victim to death with a spade while the teen was sleeping, the Times Of India reported.

When officers responded to the crime scene, the accused minor tried to mislead the authorities by claiming that his younger brother was attacked by a stranger who immediately fled the spot after mounting the murder.

However, when the officers questioned him further, he confessed to killing his brother, stating that he committed the crime because he and his mother were fed up with the victim's attitude and harassment.

According to the accused, his younger brother often picked fights with the members of their family and made unrealistic monetary demands that their laborer mother couldn’t easily afford. The younger brother would reportedly throw a tantrum when his demands are not met. The accused added that his mother was barely making ends meet by working as a laborer after their father died a few years ago.

The juvenile suspect was arrested on Wednesday, Aug. 3. He will reportedly be sent to a correction home some time later after attending the funeral of his brother.
