Texas Senator Ted Cruz said that the "like" to a pornographic video from his Twitter account was a "staff problem."
According to the Washington Post, Cruz said "it was a staffing issue and it was inadvertent, it was a mistake, it was not a deliberate action." "We're dealing with it internally but it was a mistake, it was not malicious conduct."
"It was not me, and it’s not going to happen again," Cruz said in an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash. CNN also confirmed that after an internal effort to find out who was responsible, they identified the staffer, but refused to name the individual. "I promise you, the staffer feels terrible," he said.
Cruz called the mishap as "an honest mistake."
After the fact that Cruz's account liked a tweet from an account titled "Sexuall Posts" that had a porn video attached, communications adviser Catherine Frazier tweeted that the tweet was removed and reported. "The offensive tweet posted on @tedcruz account earlier has been removed by staff and reported to Twitter
"I spent five and a half years as the solicitor general in Texas, I worked for the attorney general. The attorney general's job is to defend the laws passed by the Texas legislature," said Cruz. "One of those laws was a law restricting the sale of sex toys, which is a stupid law," he added.
"Consenting adults should be able to do whatever they want in their bedrooms," said Cruz remembering his time serving in Texas.
