Lately it appeared that Justin Bieber was dragged into the drama between Taylor Swift and Scooter Braun. After Swift accused Braun of “bullying,” which she took on social media, Bieber, along with Demi Lovato, came forward to support Braun, while model Cara Delevingne posted an Instagram message that appears to support Swift.
It’s possible that the spat between Swift and Braun might have dragged a few more names into the mix in the days ahead. But a few observers noted that the Braun incident isn’t actually the first feud between Swift and Bieber.
As CheatSheet puts it, the two music artists have been frenemies for years. And it may have started back in 2013, when Selena Gomez was still Bieber’s on-again-off-again girlfriend.
As Gomez’s pal, Swift might have formed a negative opinion on the Canadian singer. At a red carpet event that year, Swift reportedly stuck out her tongue in a show of disgust when Gomez greeted Bieber with a kiss on his cheek.
At the height of the drama between Swift and Kanye West, Bieber struck back. He posted a photo of himself, West and Braun on Instagram with the caption “Taylor Swift What Up.”
Bieber’s post is believed to be a reference to a song that was produced by West that mentioned Swift. The latter alleged that her name was used without her consent, but Kim Kardashian later posted on social media a supposed recording that proved that Swift actually permitted West to use her name in the song.
Recently, Swift made a lengthy social media post in reference to Braun’s purchase of record label Big Machine for $300 million. “Some fun facts about today’s news: I learned about Scooter Braun’s purchase of my masters as it was announced to the world,” Swift wrote. “All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at his hands for years.”
“Now Scooter has stripped me of my life’s work, that I wasn’t given an opportunity to buy,” Swift also stated. “Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it.” She then attached a photo of Bieber’s 2016 Instagram post, the one captioned “Taylor swift what up.”
And that was when Bieber once again entered the fray. At the moment, various accusations have been hurled by various parties against each other, and it might take time for anyone to get to the bottom of things. But yes, this is not the first time Swift and Bieber crossed swords at all, so it’s interesting how things will progress from here.
