An accident on the Tappan Zee Bridge has left one woman dead and four other people injured. Just before nine O'clock Tuesday night 69-year-old Michael Schechel was driving his white SUV southbound in the north bound lane.

The SUV collided headfirst with a Nissan driven by Newman Ayeh-Brachie a Hillcrest resident. Brachie's car flipped over several times, until finally landing on its' roof in the middle lane. Ayeh-Brachie's passenger was 56-year-old Hannah Ayeh-Brachie. The 56-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

A third car, driven by Juan Robles swerved to miss the SUV but collided with the Nissan driven by Ayeh-Brachie. There were a minimum of five cars involved with the accident. Reports are saying the other drivers were all taken to Nyack Hospital in critical condition.

The Rockland bound side of the Tappan Zee Bridge was closed for a total of six hours on both sides. Police are investigating why Schechel was driving the wrong way on the bridge. There have been no charges filed as of yet. The Bridge is currently open and traffic is flowing normally.
