Taco lovers can now rejoice, as there is now a one-stop-shop for everything you would want to and need to know about tacos in the form of an encyclopedia. Titled "La Tacopedia," the taco encyclopedia is available (only) in Spanish and took five years of research to create!
The 320-page book begins with the history of corn and tortillas, includes a "tacografía," and classifies the 16 major types of tacos, including: stew, golden, baked barbecue, insects, fish and seafood, al pastor, grilled, broiled, mixiote, basket and more. Each chapter of the book is dedicated to a differrent type of taco, offering information on the history, how it has evolved and how to eat it.
Additionally, the encyclopedia covers premium tacos -- such as enchiladas, quesadillas and tlayudas -- and has 36 recipes for sauces. Filled with photographs and illustrations, the taco encyclopedia is infested with historical quotes and fun facts.
Here are three fun facts about tacos:
1. Los Angeles County has over 4,480 registered mobile food loncheras.
Jaime Martin Del Campo has a 71-page study by UCLA, as reported by the LA Weekly, which found that loncheras have taken over Los Angeles. While these mobile vendors may be small, they rake in the dough that can be compared to restaurants.
2. There is a time and place for everything -- even tacos.
There's apparently a time and place for tacos. For instance, seafood tacos should be eaten when the sun is out and lunch is the most important meal in the taco world. Enchiladas, on the other hand, are for dinner.
3. The taco has an anthem.
Mexican artist Chava Flores has created an anthem for tacos. Watch the anthem below:
