As rumored last week Microsoft chopped the 32 GB Surface RT base price to $349 from $499 and the 64 GB model without a keyboard for $449 from its original price of $599 on Microsoft online store. With the keyboard both devices are $100 more making the 16 GB device $449 and the 64 GB device $549. Best Buy and Staples websites also list the discounted price for the devices.
The Wall Street Journal's website cites a Microsoft spokesperson saying the Surface RT tablet is doing great. The spokesperson said:
"We've been seeing great success with pricing and cover promotions over the past several months on Surface RT in the U.S. and other markets. People who buy Surface love Surface, and we're excited about all those additional people out sharing their excitement for Surface with other people."

But the statement is contrary to others involved with the device who have said the Microsoft Surface RT tablets sales have been disappointing. The chief executive of Nvidia Corp., which makes the computer makes chips for the Surface RT tablet said in March that the sales of the Windows RT device had been "disappointing" so far reports the Wall Street Journal.
This isn't the first time Microsoft has tried discounts on the Surface RT tablet. More than a month ago the company started offering people who bout a Surface RT a free cover the doubles as the device's keyboard which usually cost $119 and $129.
According to a slide displayed during a keynote presentation at the firm's Worldwide Partner Conference last week, Microsoft is reportedly gearing up for a refresh of the Surface RT and Pro devices in the coming months.
