Later this month, May 20 to be exact, Microsoft will be hosting a Surface-related event. The tagline for the event reads, "Join us for a small gathering," which many are assuming that the company may use this event to unveil its smaller version of the Windows Surface tablet.
Microsoft has been rumored to be working on a smaller version of its Surface tablet. According to CNET the smaller tablet will reportedly use a 7.5-inch display with a resolution of 1,400 x 1,050. The sizing places the new tablet right between Apple's iPad Mini and the Android powered 7-inch Nexus 7 by Google and Asus. This more than likely is Microsoft's approach at giving consumers another alternative than just Android or iOS.
And it's about the right timing for the company to announce a new product as last September, Microsoft announced its second generation 10.1-inch tablets: the Surface Pro 2 and the Windows RT-powered Surface 2.
As of now this is all speculation and Microsoft has yet to confirm the existence of a smaller Surface tablet. In fact all Microsoft has said officially is, "We have a lot of great things that we are thinking about and working on, and there are multiple aspect ratios and sizes and awesome things to come from Surface." Surface creator Panos Panay told The Verge.
So I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens May 20 at Microsoft's Surface event.
