President Obama has personally called the plaintiffs in the gay marriage case to congratulate them on Wednesday's Supreme Court victory.

The presdient called from Air Force One, to offer genuine congrtaultions to the plaintiffs on the case against Prop 8, he was en route to Senegal.

"We're proud of you guys, and we're proud to have this in California, and it's because of your leadership things are heading the right way. So you should be very proud today." Obama also added, "Through your courage, you're helping out a whole lot of people everywhere."

Supreme Court ruled that married gay and lesbian couples are entitled to federal benefits. The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court by a 5-4 vote.

"The federal statute is invalid, for no legitimate purpose overcomes the purpose and effect to disparage and to injure those whom the State, by its marriage laws, sought to protect in personhood and dignity," Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote in the majority opinion. "By seeking to displace this protection and treating those persons as living in marriages less respected than others, the federal statute is in violation of the Fifth Amendment."
