A superstitions Indian woman sacrificed her six-month-old daughter by slitting the baby’s throat with a knife. The incident happened at Mothey in Suryapet district of Telangana on Thursday.

Mothey police said that Bharathi, 32, committed the crime in the absence of her family. "After killing the baby, Bharathi told her family members and relatives that her actions in fact helped in saving the lives of other family members, since Bharathi thinks that she has Sarpadosham," Mothey sub-inspector Praveen Kumar told The Times of India.

About five years ago, someone told Bharathi that she has Sarpadosham (caused due to anger of the serpent God according to Vedic astrology). Following this, she felt that Sarpadosham was creating a negative impact on her life. "According to her family members, Bharathi used to constantly go through various videos on YouTube, to know how to overcome Sarpadosham," police said.

The child was killed when Bharathi’s husband Krishna, who is an agriculturist, was at his relatives' house, and his mother was at their agricultural field. Krishna’s father was sleeping outside their house.

When the relatives found the baby in a pool of blood, they also spotted a photo of a god near the child. A murder case was registered against Bharathi following a complaint by her husband. The accused holds a degree in B.Sc as well as B.Ed. She was preparing for a job in the police, reported India Today.

Meanwhile, a teenager in the Erode district of Tamil Nadu, India recently filed a police complaint against his mother alleging he and his younger brother could be killed in a human sacrifice ritual. The boy alleged that they were tortured by the accused for not obeying orders at home. The children feared for their lives and ran off to their grandparents' place. Later, they went to the police, reported India Today.

The child identified Ramilingam and Ranjitha as his parents. According to the child's complaint, Ramilingam and Ranjitha, were involved in extra-marital affairs.

Ramilingam married another woman named Indumathi. Ranjitha, on the other hand, "married" a friend of Indumathi, identified as Dhanalakshmi. The child claimed they called themselves "Sivan" and "Shakti" - referring to the powers of Lord Shiva and the goddess of power.

The child alleged that Ranjitha and Dhanalakshmi punished them for not believing their claim of being "Sivan" and "Shakti." The child said that he heard Ranjitha and Dhalakshmi planning to make him and his brother as part of a human sacrifice ritual.
