The "Shovel Knight" amiibo has officially been confirmed by Nintendo of America during a pre-PAX presentation at its Nindies@Night event at EMP Museum in Seattle Nintendo Life reports.
The amiibo will function with both the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game. When scanning on the Wii U "Shovel Knight" gamers will gain access cooperative play mode. On the 3DS and Wii U, the amiibo can be used to level-up and customize the main character. There are also exclusive amiibo challenge levels. It was also announced that the amiibo will be used in "future Shovel Knight games," which is a big indication that there will be a sequel on the way.
Many Nintendo gamers have speculated that the protagonist of "Shovel Knight" would make an appearance as a DLC character in "Super Smash Bros." for Wii U and 3DS, and the announcement of the amiibo only adds to that rumor. As of now the amiibo features aren't geared toward "Super Smash Bros.," however with the amiibo in place, adding the character to the roster later on will make the process much more easier.
