With the two week gap between the championship games and Super Bowl finally nearing an end, both the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks are making their final preparations for what could easily be the best game of the 2013-2014 NFL season. The Broncos put together one of the best offensive seasons in league history this past year, totaling 606 points while scoring over 37 points per game and averaging nearly 460 yards per contest. While those numbers are certainly worthy for discussion as to which team in the long history of professional football truly possessed the ‘Greatest offense in NFL history,’ the Broncos’ next opponent is certainly up for the challenge of slowing Peyton Manning and his arsenal.

Ranking first in every major defensive statistic this season, the NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks’Legion of Boom’ defense possesses the ability to dominate each game they enter. Led by the tenacity and extreme talent of Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor and linebacker Bobby Wagner among others, Seattle is consistently effective. Hoping to capture the first Lombardi Trophy in franchise history, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said at a joint press conference with Broncos head coach John Fox that the battle to achieve the pinnacle of success in the NFL is exciting but the opportunity in front of them at the present time remains the biggest challenge.

“The trophy really does symbolize the ultimate challenge and competitiveness in our sport and in our world of coaching or playing,” Carroll said. “To dream about being in this position as a kid and then working all through the years of coaching, battling and watching other guys do it and for the first time for us; it’s a tremendous honor. It’s a tremendous opportunity and it creates an extraordinary challenge to see if you can be the one. It symbolizes a tremendous amount to all of us. It’s great to be here, and I’m thrilled to be doing it, too. It makes for so much fun. The whole build-up, the whole following, knowing it’s a global event on game day just adds to the fun of this thing. The challenge continues to be out there for us to reach for, so it’s very exciting.”

John Fox – who will appear in his second Super Bowl as head coach and first with the Broncos – said that the goals you set in the beginning of the season are supposed to culminate with a championship berth. While it’s important to get a complete team effort in big games, the former Carolina Panthers head coach and New York Giants defensive coordinator said that the big-name players and premier individuals will need strong games in order to win the game.

“You take individuals and you try to paint a picture of where you want to get to, and I think this is the pinnacle of it,” Fox said. “Like different levels of football, there's only one happy camper at the end, and that's going to be the team hoisting that trophy. There haven't been very many championships in any sport where your big players didn't play big. But there always seems to be the unknown guy that makes a critical play.”
