A 35-year-old woman from Griswold was arrested by Connecticut State Police in connection with the death of her six-week-old baby.

Arrested was Crystal Czyzewski who is facing first-degree manslaughter and risk of injury to a child, Fox 61 reported.

The mother allegedly grew stressed about the baby and her 5-year-old child, both of whom were crying at the same time.

Czyzewski allegedly put a blanket and a hand over the child’s face for 20 minutes until he was dead according to police.

Police responded to a report of an unresponsive child in Griswold. The infant was immediately taken to the Backus Hospital in Norwich before being transferred to the Connecticut Children’s Medical in Hartford where he arrived in cardiac arrest, NBC Connecticut reported.

"She admitted to placing a blanket over the victim's face while he was sitting in a swing in the house. She admitted she placed her hand over the blanket and the victim's face for '20 minutes' until he was dead," a police report read.

The child received treatment for several days before dying on Sunday, Nov. 21.

Per court documents, the woman originally claimed that the child was well and alive all day but had problems breathing after she was fed. But when authorities talked to the suspect’s mother, she admitted she knew the baby was not breathing but was not aware that Crystal had suffocated him.

It was further that both Czyzewski and her mother devised a plan to put food on the baby’s face to make it look that he was still alive. The 35-year-old mom was allegedly afraid that she could lose her 5-year-old offspring as well.

It was proven that Czyzewski was responsible for the child's death. She was taken into custody and was being held on a $500,000 bond.

The 35-year-old woman appeared in court on Tuesday, Nov. 23.

The Department of Children and Families placed the 5-year-old child with a family member, according to the police.
