Netflix has released the first official trailer for the upcoming supernatural thriller "Stranger Things" by Matt and Russ Duffer. Until now, details regarding the series have been scarce but with the new clip we get a more in-depth look at what will happen in the series.
While we know the series will be of a thrilling nature, the trailer holds nothing back when showing us the crazy coming to "Stranger Things." No need to wait until the two-minute mark to see a van flipping over a few kids riding their bikes in the street, to realize that the series will be the darkest to date. Aside from the wardrobe and look of the town, the pacing and lighting in the trailer are all reminiscent of the 1982 classic "Poltergeist."
"Stranger Things" starring Winona Ryder will mark her first leading TV role. The period drama is set in 1980s suburban Indiana and chronicles the search for a boy who vanishes into thin air under suspicious circumstances. His mother Joyce, played by Ryder, opens an investigation that "unravels a series of mysteries involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl." From the looks of the trailer we can guess at alien contact or some kind of government coverup.
Aside from Ryder, other cast members for the Netflix series include Matthew Modine as Dr. Martin Brenner, David Harbour as Chief Hopper, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan, Natalia Dyer as Nancy, Millie Brown as Eleven, Finn Wolfhard as Mike, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin and Cara Buono as Karen.
There will be eight hour-long episodes in the first season that will premiere on July 15. It will be written and directed by Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer ("Hidden" and "Wayward Pines") and executive produced by Shawn Levy.
