Nearly 30 years after a six-year-old girl was abducted in Arkansas, a suspect was identified following the discovery of hair in a truck connected him to the case, according to a report.
Morgan Nick was last seen on June 9, 1995, in Alma, Ark., when she was abducted from a Little League baseball game while she played with friends. Witnesses reported seeing a red truck with a white camper top near the site of Nick's disappearance.
Shortly after her abduction, police questioned Billy Jack Lincks, who drove a red truck at that time, according to an Arkansas NBC affiliate. Lincks had also been arrested shortly after Nick's kidnapping for attempting to abduct an 11-year-old girl.
When asked about Nick, he denied any involvement or knowledge of the case. CBS News reported that police at the time believed Lincks "appeared to be truthful."
Alma police reopened Nick's case in 2019 as part of a review of new evidence and promising leads. The reopening prompted them to search for Lincks' red truck.
In July 2020, police were able to locate the vehicle which Lincks owned in 1995. Despite it having several owners after him, police searched the truck and collected any evidence they could.
In 2024, DNA analysis revealed that hair found in the truck belonged to either Colleen Nick, Morgan's mother, or one of her children. The newfound information led authorities to officially name Lincks as a suspect in Nick's abduction.
Despite the development, Morgan Nicks has never been found and Lincks died in prison in 2000. According to CBS News, investigators have pursued over 10,000 leads and spent thousands of hours looking into tips.
The investigation remains open, and law enforcement officials say they are still actively pursuing leads and interviewing individuals connected to Lincks.
