A recently leaked image in the form of an email found via Reddit has revealed the alleged dates for the Valve's upcoming Steam Holiday Sale, and Autumn Sale. According to the leak, the Autumn sale will kick off Wednesday, November 27 and run through Tuesday, December 3. If it is anything like Valve's Steam Summer 2013 sale then you know it will be good. The summer sale discounted an enormous number of excellent games new and old. Valve has not confirmed if the email is real or fake, but it is safe to assume for now that it is real -- but it's always a good idea to remember these Internet leaks are not always 100 percent.
The alleged email posted by a Russian developer states that the Valve Steam Autumn sale will run from Wednesday, November 27 until Tuesday, December 3 as stated above. Then the Steam Holiday sale will kick off just two weeks after that and start Tuesday December 19 until Thursday January 2. "Because the two sales occur just a few weeks apart, we plan to maintain the same discounts from one sale to the other," the email reads. If the email is authentic then gamers have a window of two weeks to save up for games they may have missed in the autumn sale. It has been reported that Valve is looking into the email leak but has not confirmed or denied it's authenticity.
However, according to an unconfirmed report on Reddit, the e-mail is genuine, and was leaked by a recently Greenlit developer. GameTrailers' @Wario64 corroborates the e-mail, confirming that the noted dates are correct saying on Twitter, "Steam sale dates have been leaked. Just in case you're curious. http://i.imgur.com/BazPkxO.png," and linking back to the leaked email via Reddit. So for now we will assume this real and advise gamers to save their pennies for the upcoming sale extravaganza. In other Valve news, the company explained the engineering behind their new hardware controller.
The company explained how their process in building their brand new hardware, the Steam controller. According to Greg Coomer, the process didn't begin by looking at something like the Xbox 360 controller and thinking about how to improve it, but instead by thinking about the nature of input and what made the most sense on a fundamental level. Valve's controller will ship to users selected for the hardware beta in 2014, and specific hardware partners and Steam designs will be announced at CES in January.
