“Squid Games” season 2 is happening although most are still wondering how show creator Hwang Dong-hyuk will go about it.
One thing that “Squid Games” fans want to know is whether characters that died in the first season will be coming back. According to Hwang, these affected characters won’t re-emerge although he will try to find a way to make them relevant when he spoke to Deadline.
"No, because most of them are dead," he said. "I'll try something to bring them back to Season 2."
From the looks of it, this may come in the form of dead characters who have relatives appearing in the second season of “Squid Games.”
"Let's say maybe she has a twin sister, you'll see," he explained.
Aside from that, the possibility of flashbacks could also be possible. Looking back at some events involving characters in season one is also possible, something that other shows have done.
Regardless, nothing is set in stone for “Squid Games” season 2. The second season was given the green light last January.
"There will be more great games, that's all I can say," Hwang said. "I'm just still brainstorming and collecting the ideas for Season 2. I haven't even started with the writing yet."
The only cast member confirmed to return is the sole survivor, Seong Gi-hun, a part played by Lee Jung-Jae.
Dong-hyuk admits that he feels the pressure of a “Squid Games” season 2, particularly due to the response the initial season got. Also, it should be noted that the show creator was in talks with Netflix not only for season 2 but also for a potential season 3.
"I have somewhat of a framework for the next season," Dong-hyuk said back in November 2021. "But I also have to admit that I feel increasingly more pressure about Season 2 as the series has gotten so much more love and attention than I could have expected. I also have a film I've been planning to shoot after Squid Game, and I haven't made up my mind about which one I should do first."
