A South Carolina woman was accused of stabbing her newborn baby to death moments after giving birth in her apartment.

Law enforcement responded to a report of a woman in medical distress in Easley on Friday. Upon arrival, they found An T Ngo, 31, and a newborn baby boy she allegedly stabbed repeatedly with a metal mail opener until he died.

Ngo then cut the umbilical cord, placed the baby in a black trash bag and put the bag in a room, according to an arrest warrant obtained by WYFF News 4.

"I will be honest with you: I've been doing this for two-and-a-half decades, and I've never seen anything this gruesome," Easley Police Chief Brandon Liner said during a news conference on Tuesday, according to WYFF News 4.

A judge issued a no bond hold at Ngo's arraignment hearing on Tuesday after she was charged with homicide by child abuse.
