Gloria Estefan has made the Latino community extremely proud with her accomplishments in the music industry and now she may be bestowed one of the highest honors in music. It is being reported that Estefan may become a Hall of Famer very soon.
According to NBC News, the Cuban-American singer and songwriter is one of the few nominees for the 2017 Songwriters Hall of Fame. Songwriters gain eligibility after writing hit songs for at least 20 years.
Thisis a huge accomplishment for Estefan who has influenced many Latino artists today. Known for her lead singing role in the band Miami Sound Machine during the late 1970s, she has built an impressive career over the years.
Estefan is a seven-time Grammy Award winner that has topped the Billboard charts countless times. She also made history with the album Mi terra becoming the first album recognized as number one on Billboard Top Latin Albums chart.
Her most recent endeavor is the Broadway musical On Your Feet based on the life of her and husband Emilio Estefan. The show takes viewers back to Miami in the 1980s and gives them a true feel of Estefan's sound and award-winning talent.
Starring Ana Villifane who plays Gloria Estefan and Ektor Rivera as Emilio Estefan, the musical relives the chart-topping hit songs and the beautiful love story of decades long marriage between the couple.
In 2015, President Barack Obama honored her and her husband with the Presidential Medal of Freedom Award for the couple's outstanding contributions to American music.
Eligible members have until December 16 to vote for three non-performing songwriters and two performing songwriters. Five songwriters or songwriting groups will be officially inducted on June 15, 2017.
We wish Gloria Estefan the best of luck!
