A 34-year-old man in India allegedly beat his mother to death because he was angry over her for shouting at him.
The shocking incident occurred in the Udharbond district of Assam.
“My mother was mentally imbalanced and she started talking nonsense after I reached home tired. So, I lost it and pushed her,” the accused, Amarjit Deb said when confronted by the press outside the police station, the Barak Bulletin reported.
However, Beb’s father, Apurba Kumar narrated a different version of the story.
“He has not pushed his mother but literally thrashed her to death,” he said.
According to the father’s statement, Deb reportedly attacked his ailing mother with a bamboo until she collapsed.
“My son was somewhere outside. He returned home riding his cycle. As soon as he entered, he dragged his ailing mother to the verandah and started kicking her. Not only that, he got a bamboo from somewhere and started beating her with that. Once I went to stop, he started beating me. Neighbors came to stop him but could not,” Kumar said.
“He called his brother - my younger son and discussed something. Immediately after that, he started beating her. I was shocked as anyone would be and have no clue what irked him. Also, if something irked him he should go and murder his own wife,” he added.
Following the incident, Kumar went to the local police station and filed a complaint against his son accusing him of murdering his mother, identified as Sumati.
Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and arrested the suspect, without incident.
Police officers responded to the crime scene and recovered the body and sent it to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy. The body was later handed over to the family for performing her last rites.
“My mother started shouting at me and after a hard day at work, my mind could not take it. And then my father joined too, that is when I got engaged physically,” the accused told the reporters.
This is an ongoing investigation and no further information including the charges imposed on the accused was revealed at the time of this writing.
