Social Media Reacts To The Day's World Cup Quarterfinal Action

The Checkered One's and La Albiceleste reach the 2022 World Cup semifinals by defeating their opponents in a pair of penalty kick shootouts, Friday, in Qatar.

Croatia upset Brazil in a 4-2 victory over the Seleção, while Argentina defeated the Netherlands in a 4-3 victory over the Oranje in a duo of penalty kick shootouts. Both countries advance as Argentina will face Croatia in the semifinals at Lusail Stadium on Tuesday, December 13.

Social Media Reacts to the quarterfinal action Friday

Friday's World Cup double-header began when underdog Croatia faced World Cup favorite Brazil at Education City Stadium, in Al Rayyan, Qatar.

A Brazilian media officer tossed a stary cat out of Brazil's World Cup press conference, that left many in shock Wednesday, a day before the match.

Tough luck, or bad karma from the stray cat. Things took a turn for the worse for the Seleção, after they finished the game tied at nil after 90 minutes, and tied 1-1 at the end of extra time with Croatia.

Late game goals in extra time from Brazilian Neymar, and Croatian striker Bruno Petkovic sent the game into pk's. Despite netting his 77th goal and tying Pele's record for the all-time Brazil men’s national team scoring record, it was not enough for the South American nation. Neymar did not get a chance to kick in the penalty shootout.

It was Croatia who made all four of its spot kicks, and scored a total of five goals. The Argentine fans celebrate Brazil's loss before their home country's kick off later the same day.
