Tuesday's U.S. presidential election was her husband's big day, but Melania Trump still managed to become a trending topic on X, formerly Twitter.
While casting her vote alongside Donald Trump in West Palm Beach, Florida, Melania donned a pair of black sunglasses indoors, prompting the internet to share absurd theories as to why.
One of the most popular explanations was that Melania had sent a body double in her place. X user @mmpadellan wrote, "Yo, am I crazy, or is that a fake Melania standing next to him?" Others made jokes at her expense while doubling down on the far-out guess.
Many pointed out discrepancies in the "body double's" appearance, a conspiracy theory that dates back to her husband's time in office.
X user @KieraGorden was convinced the woman next to Trump was "absolutely, categorically NOT #MELANIA!", while others doubled down on the conspiracy theory. One user applauded the Trump's decision to bring back "Fake Melania for the season finale."
Some X users made jokes about Melania sending a body double because "the check didn't clear." Another hypothesized that she was hiding eye rolls from her presidential hopeful husband.
One X user theorized the woman alongside Trump was actually his deputy communications chief, Margo Martin. Photos showed the aide does bare a striking resemblance to the former first lady.
Additional media from the event eventually made their way to X, showing the former first lady was indeed the woman behind the sunglasses. Some users, however, still thought the former first lady looked "weird."
