
The 2014 Winter Olympics begin today! The long wait is finally over as today marks the first day of competition. The Figure Skating Team event is now underway, with the Men's Short Program beginning this morning and the Team Pairs Event beginning at 12:10 p.m. ET. The Teams event is a brand new event in Sochi. NBC will be providing more than 1,539 hours worth of coverage of the event, so there is no need to leave your couch and venture into the cold!

Coverage will continue tomorrow with the opening ceremony. However, for those of you hoping to live stream the event, unfortunately NBC will not be offering online coverage. “We want to put context to it, with the full pageantry it deserves,” said Mark Lazarus, chairman of NBC Sports Group.

The opening ceremony is going to be exciting: Renowned Russian performers will take part in the Opening Ceremony to Sochi 2014. According to the Telegraph, viola player Yuri Bashmet and conductor Valery Gergiev, will appear.
