Flying is already a huge fear for many people but imagine a reptile loose while you're in the air. This was the harsh reality for passengers on board a commercial flight in Mexico City on Sunday.
According to FOX News Latino, passengers on a commercial flight in Mexico were given a scare when a a snake slithered out of nowhere. The green reptile appeared on an Aeromexico flight from Terreon in the country's north to Mexico City on Sunday. The serpent emerged from the ceiling behind an overhead luggage compartment.
The site reports that cellphone footage shot by a passenger, Indalecio Medina, showed the snake wiggling broefly as if it was trapped before partially dropping down into the cabin.
"I was reading a magazine and the passenger next to me saw it and, 'Oh my word!'" Medina told The Associated Press by phone Monday. He estimated it was over 3 feet (about 1 meter) in length."It was a frightening situation ... but people remained calm because it didn't get out of that space and nobody became hysterical. Some people got up to see what kind of reptile it was, but nobody got carried away."
Passengers quickly unbuckled themselves to get a better look of the dangling snake before it dropped to the floor.
After the pilot radioed ahead, the plane was given priority landing in Mexico City and touched down 10 minutes later. Passengers exited out the rear, and animal control workers came on board to take the stowaway into custody.
Aeromexico said in a statement that it was investigating how the snake got into the cabin and would take measures to keep such an incident from happening again.
There is no word on if a passenger attempted to bring the reptile on board. Teh airline is currently undergoing an investigation.
