Slayer guitarist, Jeff Hanneman has died, he was 49 years old. Slayer spokeswoman Heidi Robinson-Fitzgerald stated that Hanneman died on Thursday morning at a Los Angeles hospital, his wife, Kathy was by his side. The Slayer guitarist died of liver failure.
The band also released a statement on its website and official Facebook page, "Slayer is devastated to inform that their band mate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11 a.m. this morning near his Southern California home. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure."
Hanneman had been recovering for what doctors believed was a spider bite; the spider bite was so severe he nearly lost it to amputation, after failing to seek immediate treatment. However, his slow recovering seemed to be progressing, he even began to write songs with the band in anticipation of recording a new album.
Robinson-Fitzgerald revealed that it's believed at this time that the mysterious spider bite contributed to the failure of Hanneman's liver. Although it is still unclear at this time if an autopsy will be scheduled.
