A woman died at Six Flags Over Texas while riding the famous Texas Giant steel-wood roller coaster Friday. Six Flags did not immediately release details about her death. It has now been revealed that she plummeted from the coaster. Six Flags Over Texas spokeswoman Sharon Parker said they do not yet know exactly what the circumstances were that allowed her to fall from the coaster car, but are utilizing every resource available to find the cause. Witnesses told reporters that they saw her lap bar lift up as she was ripped from her seat by the velocity as her children sat around her at 6:30 p.m. that day. The woman has been identified as Rosy Esparza, the New York Daily News reported.
Her children reportedly began crying for help when their cart stopped at the station that evening. Medical responders arrived on the scene and said there was nothing they could have done to save her. The Texas Giant is the tallest steel-wood hybrid coaster in the world, standing at 153 feet. The Arlington Police Department did not comment on the situation, CNN reported. Six Flags released a statement following Esparza's death.
"Since the safety of our guests and employees in our number one priority, the ride has been closed pending further investigation," the statement said.
Esparza reportedly said she was concerned that her safety bar was not properly secured before the coaster took off.
