A Singaporean father was sentenced to 33 years in prison on Tuesday for sexually abusing all three of his daughters over the course of 14 years. The 55-year-old father whose name cannot be disclosed to protect the identities of his children was said to have started abusing his daughters as soon as they turned 11 or 12 years old.

According to Channel News Asia, the man pleaded guilty to charges of rape, aggravated rape and attempting to procure an indecent act with his youngest daughter.

The man who worked as a cleaner at a primary school has been married since 1993 and lives with his wife and their three daughters now 13, 22 and 26, and a 17-year-old son.

He started sexually assaulting his eldest daughter in 2005 after watching pornography which prosecutors determined to have developed his urges. His daughter at the time just turned 11 years old when he forced her into sexual acts while she was doing her homework. He continued to rape her multiple times until she turned 16.

From there, his focus shifted to his second daughter, who had just turned 12 years old. The father made her perform oral sex on him and raped her a few times a week. The last time he raped her was in October 2019 a week before his arrest while his wife was sleeping in the living room.

The eldest and second daughter kept their father’s sexual assaults secret in fear of consequences from their father who had warned them against telling anyone.

On Oct. 22, 2019, the man targeted his youngest daughter, who was then 12 years old. Aware of her father’s intentions, as she had seen him sexually assaulting her sister twice before and had forced her to touch him a year ago, the girl started crying which made her father angry and did not pursue his intentions further, The Straits Times wrote.

The next day, she told a friend about what happened, not knowing what to do to stop her father’s sexual assaults. On her friend's advice, she revealed the events to her teacher at which her teacher took her to a police station to lodge a report.

High Court judge See Kee Oon handed down the sentence saying:

"The accused had caused significant physical and psychological harm to all three of his daughters and severely violated their trust in their own father."

Psychiatric assessments also determined the man to have a high risk of reoffending as he has been diagnosed with the paedophilic disorder. However, laws in Singapore dictate that he cannot be caned as he is over 50.

Prosecutors sought a total sentence of at least 35 years and four months' jail, which included a one-year term in lieu of caning.
