New girl spoilers, season 2, cece, schmidt

Okay, here are the facts: Cece is engaged and to be married to Shivrang on season 2 "New Girl" and last week's episode showed a momentary hesitation on her end. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on which side you're on), Cece was back on track with her wedding plans by the end of the episode. But I'm convinced this wedding will not go through -- and if it does, it definitely will not last.

If "New Girl" fans rooting for Schmidt aren't reason enough for the creative team to nix the nuptuals, then here are four rock-solid (or perhaps just cardboard-solid) scientific reasons why Cece should not marry Shivrang:

1. She barely knows him.

Last week's episode showed that Cece hadn't been intimate with Shivrang which means the two haven't tested out their sexual chemistry. While Cece's fears emerged last week, a few kind words from her fiancee squashed them right back down.

And it's not just sexual chemistry--because we all know that's merely one facet of a relationship and doesn't guarantee a successful marriage--the two simply haven't spent that much time together and are pretty much jumping in without thinking. Shouldn't Shivrang know Cece well enough to know that she's always wanted a bachelorette party? According to Ted Huston, Ph.D., a professor of psychology and human ecology at the University of Texas at Austin, happily married couples dated for an average of 25 months.

2. They have communication issues.

This may be due to point one, but the two don't communicate. Sure, they talk, but they don't discuss issues. Case in point: Cece didn't share her cold feet with Shivrang. A University of Chicago study found that most married couples are not good at communicating, so just imagine the future of Cece and Shivrang when they're not communicating with each other before marriage.

3. She's marrying him for the wrong reasons.

Simply put, Cece is marrying Shivrang because her uterus is ticking and the doctor told her that her fertility has an expiration date. I'm not saying she doesn't care for him or that she'd make a terrible wife, but she definitely doesn't love him.

As for Shivrang, it's safe to say he's trying to lock down a hot wife. The author's of "How Not to Marry the Wrong Guy" did a lot of research for their book, and found that 30 percent of divorcees knew they weren't marrying the right guy, but many women proceed in order to meet a self-imposed timeline. Or in Cece's case, her self-imposed timeline is courtesy of the dire state of her ovaries (I'm being dramatic, I'm aware).

4. Schmidt.

Okay, this is not scientific, but this is probably the strongest case. Cece has chemistry with Schmidt and her reason for breaking up with him wasn't convincing enough. She thinks he's not ready for a committed relationship, but he clearly is. He was ready to step up to the plate when he thought Cece was pregnant and he clearly does love her. And with Schmidt's recent change of heart -- he apologized to her for his selfishness and even stood up for her at her speed dating event -- fans can keep their fingers crossed that Cece will change her mind.

But more importantly, if she was single and then settling, then she would be able to move on with her life. But the fact that she has a viable alternative that she has feelings for (no matter how latent they may be) and is chosing to settle for Shivrang just means her marriage will be short-lived, at best.
