Five of the children from the Swedish royal family will be losing their titles and will no longer be the members of the royal house. According to reports, the Swedish royal palace has officially announced that the children of Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill, as well as of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia, will not be serving as members of the royal house anymore.

Fredrik Wersäll, the Marshal of the Realm, confirmed the news. “His Majesty The King has decided on changes to The Royal House,” read an official statement from the royals. “The purpose of these changes is to establish which members of The Royal Family may be expected to perform official duties incumbent on the Head of State or related to the function of the Head of State.”

“His Majesty The King has decided that the children of Their Royal Highnesses Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia, and the children of Her Royal Highness Princess Madeleine and Mr Christopher O’Neill will no longer be members of The Royal House,” declared the statement further.

The kids who will lose their title are Madeleine and Chris’ three children — Princess Leonore, 5; Prince Nicolas, 4; Princess Adrienne, 1 — and Carl Philip and Sofia's two sons — Prince Alexander, 3, and Prince Gabriel, 2. This means that these royal children will no longer bear the style Royal Highness.

However, the Swedish royal family also confirmed that, though losing their HRH titles, the royal children will continue to retain their titles of duke and duchess, which were previously granted to them by King Carl XVI Gustaf, their grandfather.

“Earlier today, the court announced that Leonore, Nicolas and Adrienne will no longer belong to the royal house,” wrote Princess Madeleine on her social media handle, affirming the news. “This change has been planned for a long time. Chris and I think it’s good that our children are now getting a greater opportunity to shape their own lives as private individuals in the future.”

As per reports, Princess Madeleine and Prince Carl Philip, who are King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia’s two younger children, will continue to perform royal duties in the near future. While Madeleine works for the World Childhood Foundation, cofounded by her mother in Miami, Carl Philip and his wife, Sofia, support their own charity, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia’s Foundation.
