DC has pushed back the release dates of some of their upcoming films, all that is except for one. “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” will be released earlier and will be out by Dec. 12, 2022, instead of June 2, 2023.
The sequel is expected to introduce new characters and creatures. A glimpse of this was shown recently when a snippet of the film was released during a Twitter exchange between director David F. Sandberg and new star Rachel Zegler.
In the video, Sandberg shared a brief video that is not referred to as the Sandberg cut. He is shown controlling a VFX stand-in on set, resulting in scaring responses from some of the film's younger stars.
“We’re thrilled to bring ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ to audiences as a Christmas gift this year,” Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution, said. “Families of all ages will really enjoy it.”
Zachary Levi will return as Shazam! Other cast members for “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” include Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Grace Fulton as Mary Bromfield, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman, Adam Brody as Super Hero Freddy, Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley, Meagan Good as Super Hero Darla, Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, Ross Butler as Super Hero Eugene, Jovan Armand as Pedro Pena, D.J. Cotrona as Super Hero Pedro, Marta Milans as Rosa Vasquez, and Cooper Andrews as Victor Vasquez.
Among the new cast members include Helen Mirren who will play the part of Hespera and Lucy Liu as Kalypso.
"I think the addition of some of these new characters with Rachel Zegler and Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu are fantastic editions," producer Peter Safran stated. "I love that the kids are all a little bit older now so we get to have a little bit more fun in kind of an edgier fashion with them. Zach inhabits that character in such a beautiful fashion. So to have been able to make a second one of those, it's a thrill."
