Shania Twain announced her plans to begin working on a new album. The star recently confirmed she's made great headway, and the album is coming along quickly and smoothly. "I'm pretty much there with my songs, I'm really just sitting on the fence in regards to a producer," she said. "So I'm listening to a lot of records, doing my homework there, and trying to determine who is the right match."
The five-time Grammy winner, whose famous tunes include "You're Still the One" and "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" revealed to Rolling Stone the kind of songs she wants in her new album. "There are probably less upbeat songs. I would say it's more half and half compared to what I've done in the past, where I would've learned more towards mostly uptempo songs," she said. Shania Twain's long-awaited new album since her 2002 album "Up!" can be expected to be a reflection of a star that not only puts a lot of pressure on herself but also pressure on what she represents in her music.
"I do want it to be perfect, and I want it to be something that I really enjoy and a product of my inspiration," Shania said. "I'm different, I've evolved, and I want that to be reflected in the music. At the same time, I don't want to abandon the root of what I am." However, she did reveal who has become her inspiration to write new music. "This is last year, but I'm really stuck on Lana Del Rey. I've been listening to that one a lot more and kind of stuck on the sound of that record. I really love "Raising Sand" as well -- Alison Krauss and Robert Plant. So that goes to show you how lost I am as far as production direction, because I'm listening to such a broad spectrum. Both of those productions really appeal to me, and the direction that they took -- just trying to get ideas for myself."
Last December, Shania Twain launched her Caesars Palace residency with a series of sold-out dates. After spending the summer in Switzerland and writing music for her new album, Twain is ready to return to Las Vegas. According to her Facebook page, Shania is going back for another series of dates that will kick off on Oct. 15 and run through mid-December. When asked whether she will include some of her new music in Las Vegas, Shania Twain smiled. "You know, you have people that go to shows, probably go to several shows a year. They know what they like and they know what to expect and you've got to deliver that and more. You have to surprise them."
