Shane Del Rosario has been in the hospital after suffering from a double cardiac arrest. According to reports, he was found by his roommate and teammate, Ian McCall, and discovered him on the floor on Tuesday morning. McCall called 911 and administered CPR after the cardiovascular collapse and Del Rosario was brought to the hospital. He was supposedly resuscitated in the emergency room, and brought back to a stable heart rhythm and blood pressure, but was not able to be treated properly. "His body is coming around physically, his organs are slowly coming back online," said Colin Oyama, the fighter's longtime trainer. "Now they are working on getting his brain to kick in. They have begun to raise his core temperature in hopes that his brain will activate after approximately 15-24 hours."
If you're curious about the health of Shane Del Rosario, then know that the UFC heavyweight is in a coma at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, California. The 30-year-old is physically stable, according to reports, but has yet to regain consciousness and doctors have revealed that the mixed martial artist has "no brain activity remaining." Whether or not he will regain consciousness is yet to be determined. That said, the UFC heavyweight has taken strides in his health as he was initially declared brain-dead and doctors recommended that his family turn off his life-support machine. Since then, the doctors have tried to control his body temperature and keep it near 90 degrees using an Arctic Sun Temperature Management, according to ESPN.
While no decision has been made about keeping Del Rosario on life support, according to Oyama, "for all intents and purposes it is over." "There is no brain activity remaining," Oyama said, according to ESPN. "The family has chosen for him to go in a dignified fashion and not on a machine." He further added that family and friends were told to say their goodbyes on Thursday. "The final decision is tomorrow, but unless something crazy happens the machines will be turned off," Oyama said Thursday evening, revealing that Shane Del Rosario is not officially dead.
