Shakira is a singer, songwriter, musician, dancer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. The well-rounded businesswoman is also a mother of two adorable boys, which explains her natural love and compassion for children all over the world. As a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, the Colombian singer is devoted to helping curb child poverty and make greater efforts toward early child development. Because of this reason, and much more, the United Nations has recruited the singer for its new initiative.
The "Hips Don't Lie" singer will join Victoria, Crown Princess of Sweden and Queen Mathilde of Belgium to help promote UN's global goals initiative. The three powerful ladies, alongside other public figures, will work together to bring awareness to issues like poverty, climate change, and war and conflict. Soccer star Lionel Messi and actor Forest Whitaker are also joining the campaign. The organization plans to use these influences to shine a light on its sustainable development goals.
"We have to make the goals famous," said Assistant UN Secretary-General Thomas Gass, reports Hello magazine. "Some of those people, they will listen to what Leo Messi has to say, and others will listen to what Crown Princess Victoria has to say… They speak to different parts of society," he added. The new campaign, according to Hello, "hopes to reinvigorate enthusiasm, inspire goodwill and accelerate progress in order to meet the 2030 deadline set out by the 193-strong UN council."
