Shakira had been making the press rounds promoting her latest self-titled album when the topic of her boyfriend came up. In an interview with Billboard magazine, the 37-year-old singer stated that she had to ask permission from Gerard Piqué in order to shoot the racy "Can't Remember To Forget You" video with Rihanna. "He's very territorial, and since he no longer lets me do videos with men, well, I have to do them with women," she said. "It's more than implied in our relationship that I can't do videos like I used to. It's out of the question - which I like, by the way. I like that he protects his turf and he values me, in a way that the only person that he would ever let graze my thigh would be Rihanna." These remarks have gotten the "Empire" hitmaker in trouble and is now backtracking her thoughts blaming it on her sense of humor.
"Hey guys, I recently said in some interviews that my man could be territorial," she said in a statement posted on her Twitter account. "For the record, I was being humorous and now I see that some press took it very literally! The reality is that we have a beautiful relationship of mutual trust, and jealousy has never been an issue on either side. Next time I promise, I'll be more careful when attempting to use my sense of humor, as clearly it can be easily misinterpreted!" The clarification came when news that the Barcelona star was getting a tad jealous over her girlfriend flirting with fellow "The Voice" coach Adam Levine. A close source told Star magazine that Piqué was feeling uneasy over the exchanges between the Maroon 5 lead singer and the mother of his son Milan. "Adam is always touching Shakira," an insider told the gossip magazine. "Gerard is livid." The source also added that Piqué is "keeping a close eye" on Levine who announced in July last year his engagement to Victoria's Secret model Behati Prinsloo.
Shakira has made a strong debut on the Billboard 200 debuting at the No. 2 position, just below Disney's Frozen who scored an eight week at the top of the chart with 161,000 copies sold. The 37-year-old Colombian's self-titled album is her highest-charting ever with 84,000 sold. It moved past her previous record at No. 3 with "Laundry Service" in 2001. However, her latest musical effort was not able to surpass 2009's "She Wolf" which launched at No. 15 with 89,000 during the Christmas shopping season. Shakira has become a household name thanks to her stint as a coach on "The Voice" that airs on NBC. The television network also booked the "Can't Remember To Forget You" singer on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" and "Today" to raise awareness of her latest musical recording.
