A sex offender already on probation for soliciting a child was busted for allegedly trying to meet up with a teen girl that was actually police posing as the girl online, according to prosecutors.
Derrick Willman, 58, was denied release during a Sunday court appearance. He is being charged with indecent solicitation of a child, traveling to meet a minor and grooming, among other charges, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office (DCSAO).
Prosecutors allege that Willman posed under the name "ChiGuy" while officers were pretending to be a 13-year-old named "Melissa." Willman allegedly asked "Melissa" if she "want to make love" and asked to meet up with her, according to DCSAO.
Willman allegedly planned to meet with the "teen" on Jan. 2 at a hotel in Downers Grove, Illinois. While Willman reportedly arrived in the hotel parking lot, prosecutors said he never went in the building and ended up driving away. He was arrested after officers conducted a traffic stop.
Authorities learned that Willman was on probation for a 2023 case where he was accused of soliciting a child through the internet in Minnesota. He was sentenced to five years probation for that case.
Willman is due back in court Jan. 27.
