Google co-founder Sergey Brin and his wife Anne Wojcicki have spilt. A spokesman for one of Silicon Valley's most high profile couples confirmed that they have split, "they have been living apart for several months. They remain good friends and partners." The couple is not yet legally separated, however the chance of reconciliation looks slim for Brin and Wojcicki, both 40.
The martial hardships between Brin and Wojcicki are further complicated, sources claim that Brin is dating 26-year-old, Amanda Rosenberg, a Google Glass marketing manager. Reports also claim that Rosenberg had also been involved with another well-known employee at Google, Hugo Barra, who recently quit the company to work for China's Xiaomi.
The separation of Brin and Wojcicki is personal and saddening news, as the couple has two children, however it also may result in negative business implications. Brin is currently worth $22.8 billion, according to Forbes. He holds nearly $21 billion worth of Google shares, the majority of which are Class B stock, which have more voting power, according to AllThingsD. And while Brin and Wojcicki have a prenuptial agreement, securing Brin's majority voting control of the company with his co-founder and CEO Larry Page, the couple have many other joint business efforts.
Wojcicki is the co-founder of 23andMe, a genomics startup which sells DNA test kits, helping individuals determine ancestry and distinct genetic medical conditions. The company has raised more than $100 million from backers, including Google, Google Ventures and Brin himself.
According to the Los Angeles Times, in 2012 alone, the couple donated $223 million, the fifth most for donors in the U.S, and they each contributed $190.1 million to their Brin Wojcicki Foundation, which promotes human rights and anti-poverty programs.
A spokesman said Brin and Wojcicki would continue to work on all these endeavors together. However despite the couple's willingness to cooperate with another in throughout their personal business activities, there is some serious Google related unease. Susan Wojcicki, Anne's sister, is senior vice president of Ads and Commerce for Google and is considered one of the company's top executives. Additionally Google has fostered a lose relationship with the Wojcicki family, having first set up in Susan Wojcicki's garage after raising it's first funding in 1998.
