Selena Gomez revealed she had chemotherapy after being diagnosed with Lupus. The songstress was forced to put her career and social life on hold when the diagnosis was made. “I was diagnosed with Lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy,” the Revival singer confessed to"Billboard" magazine. "That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke."
Gomez said it was hard being the subject of gossip after tabloids suggested she was in rehab for substance abuse while she was away from the spotlight for treatment, "I wanted so badly to say, 'You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. You’re a--holes.' I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again. I’m so f—king nice to everybody, and everyone is so vile to me, I’ve been working since I was 7. I’ve been a UNICEF ambassador since I was 17. It’s so disappointing that I’ve become a tabloid story." But she admitted, "The hate motivated me, this is my time. I’ve deserved this. I earned it. This is all me."
According to the Mayo Clinic, Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that occurs when your body's immune system attacks your own tissues and organs, the condition normally results in joint pain and swelling, strong headaches but can also cause sensitivity to light and skin rashes.
