Selena Gomez is the new cover star of Marie Claire magazine’s June issue, where she opened up about her dating life after breaking up with Justin Bieber and taking control of her career.
The “Revival” singer has been very open about being fed up with the media asking questions about her personal life instead of her work. “I would try to promote something that I loved, and the entire interview would be about my personal life,” she said. But despite her struggles, she says she always puts on a brave face. “I would leave a room feeling defeated, feeling embarrassed, but I would always make sure to put that smile on my face because I wasn't going to let them get to me.”
Gomez admits that despite having fun with her love life, she doesn’t fully open up or fully trust anyone anymore. “I've been dating. I've been having the best time. But I don't trust anybody, so dating can only be fun if I know I'm going to have fun.”
On how she finally took control of her career: “I had to not be afraid to ask dumb questions, which means I asked a million things about every single step that I was making.” Gomez said she used to let her agents and managers take decisions for her, but that’s not how things are anymore. “Authenticity is my life. They make great choices, but I make the decisions.”
The singer just kicked off her “Revival Tour” on May 6, performing material she is extremely proud, for being her “most personal work yet.” “I wanted to do things that I knew were going to be me. I don't want people to look at me as someone who is just this celebrity person.”
