One week after President Obama was reelected, the White House has been receiving some interesting requests.
Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming have all petitioned to the White House to no longer be a part of the United States.
"Peacefully grant the State of Minnesota to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government," Minnesota's petition read.
The White House will review petitions that get over 25,000 signatures.
"The right to petition your government is guaranteed by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution," the White House said. "We the People provides a new way to petition the Obama Administration to take action on a range of important issues facing our country. We created We the People because we want to hear from you. If a petition gets enough support, White House staff will review it, ensure it's sent to the appropriate policy experts, and issue an official response."
Texas, Louisiana and Florida all have enough votes to garner a response from the government.
Ohio was decisive in the president's victory and now, they want out.
"Allow for the peaceful withdrawal of Ohio from the United States of America such that it becomes its own free nation," the state's petition read. Ohio became the 17th state admitted to the Union in 1803 and it presently has a population and economy larger than that of Switzerland. John F Kennedy once stated "those who make peaceful revolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable" and in that spirit it is just and proper that the opportunity for peaceful political change be given to the citizens of the states. It would be a crime against the people of any state to hold them, against their will, in a Union that they desire to leave. Ohio can stand on its own as a free and independent nation, separate from the United States of America, while remaining on friendly terms with the United States of America. Ohio's right to leave the Union should be recognized and it should be allowed to peacefully withdraw from the USA."
