The oldest head coach in the NFL isn’t very impressed with Gillette Stadium or the fans that filled the arena on Sunday.
Seattle Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll had his critiques after his team beat the New England Patriots, 31-24. "It's not a great place. They weren't nuts. It's because they're so used to winning. There was a time when they kicked their last field goal to go ahead, and it was like a round of applause for a nice effort. Gosh, our guys would be going berserk. We're so hungry for it," Carroll Said.
Seahawks stadium, CenturyLink Field, is well known for being the loudest stadium in the league. Their “12th man“ fans have become so loud that opposing quarterbacks can’t even hear their offensive coordinators at the line of scrimmage. Play calling for quarterbacks has become excruciating for quarterbacks in Seattle.
It’s also important to note that Carroll used to coach the Patriots in the late ‘90s. He coached the Patriots for three seasons compiling a 27-21 record, and he was later fired by the team after an 8-8 season in 1999. Bill Belichick was immediately named head coach of the Patriots after Carroll. Noticing a theme here? Belichick got the best of Carroll in Super Bowl 49, but Carroll got a little sweet revenge on Sunday Night Football against his rival. Was Carroll taking a shot at Belichick by implying that Patriots fans aren’t as enthusiastic since he left? Maybe.
Then again, maybe Patriots fans have adopted the attitude of their head coach. Even when Belichick wins you can barely see a winning expression on his face. Belichick has led the Patriots to four Super Bowl victories and six AFC conference titles and his celebrations are as mum as possible.
Yes, it’s safe to say that Belichick and Carroll are polar opposites when it comes to coaching demeanor.
