Lisa Kudrow is the newest star to join the ABC series "Scandal" for the upcoming third season. Lisa, 50, has signed up to appear in the White House Drama show, with a recurring role that marks a welcome return to acting for Kudrow, who has been focusing on producing projects as well as her improvisation show "Web Therapy" in recent years.
Although spoilerphobic Shonda Rhimes, the writer and producer of the show, is keeping details of Lisa's role under lock and key, she managed to disclose that Kudrow, in her biggest acting commitment to date since the end of her 10-season run on the NBC comedy "Friends," will play a politician on the upcoming third season of the political fixer drama starring Emmy nominee Kerry Washington.
Additional details about her character -- including her name and just whom she would have political ties to -- are being kept under wraps, as is the date of her first episode. Kudrow is joining her long-time producing partner Dan Bucatinsky, who received an Emmy nomination for his recurring role as Cyrus' (Jeff Perry) long-suffering husband.
Lisa also marks the latest high-profile recurring player to join Scandal, following Scott Foley, who was promoted to series regular for season three.
Rhimes recently talked to The Hollywood Reporter and shared the few details we know about the upcoming season. She revealed that President Fitzgerald Grant's (Tony Goldwyn) re-election will likely be on the menu for season three. "We're going to head in that direction, but I don't know if we're going to get there in the first half of the season," Rhimes said. "But we are heading in that direction. It's a big deal. We're at the timeline where that starts to be an issue."
Don't miss "Scandal" season premiere on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 10/9c on ABC.
