Sasha and Malia Obama's Spring Break vacation continues. On Friday, reports surfaced that President Barack Obama's daughters departed the Bahamas for Boise. KMVT-11, the CBS affiliate in Twin Falls, Idaho reported that Sasha and Malia were seen skiing at the Sun Valley resort area. This comes in the wake of widespread bipartisan criticism, as covered by the Latin Times, of Barack Obama's recent comments regarding the precariousness of the nation's financial straits when compared to his family's actions. Obama has been painted as the traditional "do as I say, not as I do" politician in recent times.
To add to the criticism, Breitbart News reported later Friday morning that KMVT had "scrub[bed]" the news story breaking Sasha and Malia's arrival from their website "without an update or correction." Michelle Obama's communications director, Kristina Schake later reported that her office had "asked news outlets not to report on or photograph the Obama children" when they are by themselves. However, this raised some eyebrows as to the transparency of White House expenditures.
The furor over the Obama family's careless personal spending habits were accentuated when Malia Obama and a band of Secret Service agents appeared in Mexico during the Spring Break season in 2012. While the Obama family said they pay out-of-pocket for such trips, critics have pointed out that security, flights on Air Force One, and other auxiliary requirements of the First Family's travel are funded by the taxpayer.
Additionally, reports surfaced as Vice President Joe Biden and wife Jill arrived Thursday at a coastal golf resort in South Carolina. The visit to Kiawah Island, S.C., is purportedly the Bidens' third leisure trip of the year, previously taking a winter respite in Snowmass, Colo., in February. Just after New Years, the vice president and Dr. Biden also spent some post-holiday time far away from Washington in the U.S. Virgin Islands, meaning Air Force Two has also gotten quite a workout as well.
