A performer from Cirque de Soleil died this weekend in a tragic accident during a show at a Las Vegas casino.

The performer, Sarah Guyard, was pronounced dead at around midnight on Saturday. According to the Clark County, Nevada, medical examiner's office the cause of death had not been determined. The accident occurred during the grandiose show's finale, during the act performers are suspended up to 50 feet in the air on lines controlled by wireless remote controls, according to the troupe's website.

Cirque Du Soleil spokeswoman Renee-Claude Menard, confirmed that Guyard-Guillot fell to her death during the finale.

According to audience members, Guyard-Guillot "was being hoisted up the side of the stage and then just plummeted down," Dan Mosqueda told the Las Vegas Sun newspaper.

"Initially, a lot of people in the audience thought it was part of the choreographed fight. But you could hear screaming, then groaning, and we could hear a female artist crying from the stage."

Guyard-Guillot, 31, was born in Paris and specialized as an acrobat and aerialist and had performed for more than 20 years, according to CNN. Guyard was in the original cast of the Cirque du Soleil show "Ka" performed at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté released a statement on Sunday, he revelaed that dut to Guyard's death the show has been cncelled indefinitely, he added, "We are reminded, with great humility and respect, how extraordinary our artists are each and every night. Our focus now is to support each other as a family."

Laliberte also expressed his personal devastation regarding the death of the mother of two, "I am heartbroken. I wish to extend my sincerest sympathies to the family. We are all completely devastated with this news."
