The Latin American television world is mourning the loss of actress Sandra Reyes, best known for her role as Dr. Paula Dávila in the hit telenovela 'Pedro El Escamoso' and her portrayal of the mother of cyclist Rigoberto Urán in the Amazon Prime Video series 'Rigo.'
The news of her passing were confirmed by her manager, Claudia Flores, who shared the information with the media.
Her cause of death was not confirmed, but her cousin Nicolás Reyes mentioned that Sandra was surrounded by close family members, suggesting she may have succumbed to a terminal illness. Reports from recent months indicated she had been battling breast cancer, which might explain her passing shortly after the production of 'Pedro El Escamoso''s second season.
Tributes poured in following the announcement of her death. Miguel Varoni, her co-star in 'Pedro El Escamoso,' remembered the time they spent together on set and bid her farewell using her character's name, Dr. Paula.
"Farewell, my Doctor Paula... You have no idea how much I'll miss you. God bless you! You'll always be in my heart," wrote Varoni alongside a photo from the show's 2001 premiere.
Fans also shared their condolences and fond memories of her career, highlighting her work in 'Clase Aparte'—her debut in 1994—and other memorable roles, such as Amparo Henao in 'El Cartel de los Sapos.'
"I remember watching her as Dr. Paula during my childhood and recently saw her again as Amparo Henao. She was an incredibly talented actress," said a fan on X.
Sandra made headlines over the past years for her decision to leave city life behind. In 2018, she moved to the countryside in Ubaté, Cundinamarca, where she cultivated her own food and raised her now 24-year-old son.
"I'm not interested in living in the city; I don't feel comfortable there. I'm happy in the countryside. I think we need to go back to our roots—grow our own food for so many reasons. It guarantees it's free from chemicals, and I love eating what I grow," she told Vea magazine.
Sandra had kept a low profile in her personal life since then, taking occasional theater roles. However, she agreed to return for the continuation of 'Pedro El Escamoso,' where, in a poignant twist of fate, her character also gave a final goodbye.
