Salma Hayek is starting 2015 with a blast on the big screen as an action super heroine who used to be a call girl but is now a police informant. Hayek will interpret Everly, a former Yakuza 'soldier' pushed to her limit, who will do anything to keep her family safe. The film directed by Joe Lynch takes place in a sole location, which seems to be Everly’s apartment, from which she’ll have to escape after a long fight for her and her loved ones’ lives.
As seen in the trailer, Hayek is protecting herself and her mother and son from a string of killers including an army of Yakuzas sent by her mob boss ex. The role seems to fit Hayek as she uses the space limitations in her favor and shows off her killer skills. The so-called ode to Asian cinema also features performances by Akie Kotabe and Hiroyuki Watanabe; and Yale Hannon powerfully scripts Lynch’s follow-up to “Knights Of Badassdom”.
“Everly” will be distributed in the US by Radius-TWC, and will be realized on iTunes and On Demand on January 23, before it hits theaters on February 27.
