With the endless news stories on Saab since its bankruptcy, it seems the Swedish automaker stands to gain more dead than when it was alive and dying.
Just earlier this month, National Electric Vehicle Sweden AB officially announced its deal to take over Saab. Just when we thought we've found closure to the Saab saga, Saab World has provided an encore.
According to the Saab forum, 900 additional Saab vehicles have been sitting in 3 U.S. seaports for quite some time now. The first 300 units will be offered exclusively to the American Sab dealers and it will be up to them to decide whether to sell the vehicles or to strip them down for spare parts.
Then, the remaining 600 Saab vehicles will get sold in batches of 100 to rental car groups as well as exporters. Unfortunately, this leaves not a single seaport Saab for immediate purchase by any private customer and Saab fan.
According to the Ally Financial list of Saab inventory, the bulk of the Saab vehicles in question are the 9-3 sedans. When studied more closely, a 1970 Saab Sonnett III and a 1985 Saab 900 SPG, as well as a handful of 9-5 and 9-4X models that are slated as parts vehicles.
Saab World notes that some dealers still have residual Saab vehicles sold at 30-50 percent discount of the original MSRP. These are a tasty bargain until an expensive mechanical gremlin arises without the safety net of proper factory warranty coverage.
