Mercedes-Benz unveiled its new CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake earlier this month to boisterous reception and now it seems as though the buzz has caught the attention of other automakers.
According to GT Spirit, Porsche aims to follow suit with a new Panamera shooting brake body style to debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show this September. For those of you that are reaching for you checkbooks, not so fast. The Panamera will strictly be a design study for now to gauge public reception. If it turns out to be a popular idea, and if the CLS Shooting Brake achieves positive sales results, the Panamera will likely enter production in 2015.
Mixing things up a bit, McLaren is mulling over on an MP4-12C shooting brake as well. Answering the super-luxe Ferrari FF, the shooting brake from Mclaren will be powered by the same twin-turbo 3.8 liter V8 engine as the coupe. However, as the name "shooting brake" suggests, a significant amount of re-engineering will be required to reposition the powerplant to sit ahead of the driver and behind the front axles. Given that McLaren boasts unmatched manufacturing capability from its modular Carbon MonoCell, the new shooting brake will be a great demonstration to show just how flexible McLaren's architecture really is.
According to rumors from AutoBild, expect the McLaren shooting brake to release by the end of 2013.
