Rudy Giuliani Accidentally Texted 2020 Election Overthrow Request to Wrong Number: Report

Former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani accidentally texted the wrong number while attempting to convince Michigan legislators to dispute the results of the 2020 election.

According to a legal brief laid out by special counsel Jack Smith, unsealed in a federal court on Wednesday, Giuliani typed the wrong number into his phone when attempting to text a Michigan lawmaker plans to decertify the 2020 presidential election.

"So I need you to pass a joint resolution from the Michigan legislature that states that the election is in dispute, there's an ongoing investigation by the Legislature, and the Electors sent by Governor Whitmer are not the official Electors of the State of Michigan and do not fall within the Safe Harbor deadline of Dec. 8 under Michigan law." the text read, according to multiple reports.

The brief, which includes a comprehensive narrative of former President Trump's alleged plan to overturn the results of the 2020 election, includes Giuliani without naming him. It argues that Trump attempted to discredit the election in a private capacity, as a candidate, after the U.S. Supreme Court gave sitting Presidents immunity for "official acts" in a ruling earlier this year.

Trump's alleged scheme included creating and submitting false certificates of ascertainment indicating that the former President won electoral college votes in states that didn't actually vote for him. Trump's lawyers claimed that the Vice President had the authority to swap official electors with an alternate slate of electors, which could hence change the outcome of the election entirely.

Giuliani, who assisted in facilitating this plot across 7 states, spoke to many Republican lawmakers in order to persuade them to replace legitimate electors with false, Trump-supporting electors through special legislative sessions.

Giuliani has already been indicted in the states of Georgia and Arizona for his role in assisting Trump's election fraud efforts. However, the Washington Post reported that Giuliani has not been served with a notice of indictment because law enforcement cannot locate him.
