Royal fans recently came to Prince Harry’s defense after he was criticized for saying that he will only have two kids with Meghan Markle. Some people who read his interview with conservationist Jane Goodall thought that the Duke of Sussex was encouraging everyone to not have more than two children.
On an online forum site, royal fans said that it’s Prince Harry and Meghan’s right to decide on how many children they want to have. Laura Warwick Martin, a former fundraiser, said that families who have decided to have only two children didn’t consider having more because it was a sensible choice for them both financially and emotionally.
Chris Hawkes, a supporter of constitutional monarchy for pragmatic reasons, said that it was all down to Prince Harry’s personal choice. “Yes, perhaps it was as he implied as inspired by a concern for the planet,” he said. “Overpopulation is an issue. But he did not say that other people should only have two,” he added.
Shelli King, an avid anglophile since 1965, also stressed the fact that the Duke of Sussex gave the public the right to choose to not have more than two children. “I do believe people should consider multiple issues before having children — including their impact on the world around them,” she said.
Marsha Jackson, a retired substitute teacher, said that Prince Harry and Meghan have the right to make their own choices. The royal couple’s choices should have no impact on anyone else’s decisions.
After Prince Harry’s interview with Goodall was released, several critics claimed that the new dad’s statement might have been an indirect shade thrown at his older brother, Prince William. The Duke of Cambridge has three children with Kate Middleton — Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
“What’s he trying to say about his big brother?” one person tweeted. “Prince William has three kids… If Prince Harry wants to have two kids to save the planet, did he just say Prince William has too many kids?” the critic added.
“So, Prince Harry says he’s only having two kids for the sake of the environment,” another critic posted. “What’s he saying about his brother?” the critic added.
