Yesterday Kate Middleton and her husband Prince William celebrated the birth of their first child. His Royal Highness the Prince of Cambridge was born at 4:24pm weighing 8-pounds, 6-ounces. Now that the royal bundle of joy has finally arrived, the British people are eager to learn the name of their future king.

In a statement announcing the birth the palace said, "Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 4:24pm. The baby weighs 8lbs. 6oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry & families have been told and are delighted. Her Royal highness and her child are both doing well and will remain in the hospital overnight."

The Royal couple and the new prince are supposed to leave the hospital later Tuesday afternoon. Crowds have gathered outside the Lindo Wing of St. Mary's Hospital in the hopes that the child's name will be revealed. When the Duchess of Cambridge arrived at the hospital Monday morning she used a side entrance, avoiding the massive crowds and reporters awaiting her arrival.

Reporters did not learn the Duchess was in labor for at least an hour. The statement from the palace said that Prince William was with his wife during her delivery. He is said to have stayed the night with Kate and their newborn son.
